Please Kill Me,
Aloha, my fleetingly flagrant flock. How goes the week? (Should the drugs have taken effect, things should be blurring right about NOW! …No? DAMN IT!!)- well, in any case – a post will have to do.
Failure, (otherwise known as the reason we never got another Backstreet Boys album #WeLuckedOut).
As writers, we tend to fear the harsh reality of opening ourselves up to the cosmos, only to be rebuffed by the fickle masses that we so desperately hoped to reach. Often this discourages or otherwise hinders one’s ability to continue pursuing their passion. This, my friends, is indeed a mental trap (a thinning of the herd, if you will).
Personally, I don’t indulge in the idea of failure, mainly because that’s all it ultimately is -an idea– no more and no less.
Don’t get me wrong, I accept the concept of -you try something, it doesn’t work, it’s a failure- right? No, wrong. It simply didn’t pan out as planned, that doesn’t make it the end of it all.
As creatives (particularly as writers), we are prone to experimentation (no, not the anal kind – unless of course, you’re into that sort of thing). People tend to object difference,(sameness is the safety net of the stagnant). What we need to understand is that without that experimentation in self-expression, there can be no progress. Remember, we are first and foremost instruments of progress (sexy, deluded, progress). We can’t allow what they may perceive as folly, to disenfranchise our ambition.
This brings us back to failure. Long story short -it doesn’t exist -at least not in our realm because we can not allow it to. (Except for skydiving without a parachute -that actually is failure).
Every new attempt, project, (plan to take over the world), should be seen as a ripple in the ocean of time. What may not have worked today -may work tomorrow. If not tomorrow -then the next day. We are fortunate enough to live in an era where our creations can take on a life of their own -without any of our intended catalysts -don’t squander this opportunity. Our ONE job is to ensure that our creations exist – do so unapologetically.
Don’t be discouraged by mockery, doubt, opinion, or judgment, (besides, the people doing that, are either unable to create themselves or are simply inept as beings, (HAHAHA #Muggles)).
So try, and keep in mind that whether or not it works out -you should be trying again anyway. Dust off and get going.
There is NO SUCH THING AS FAIL. There is only you, what you can do, what you create, and infinite opportunities to create again. If you’re one of those people that require societal permission to chase your ambition to succeed, consider this my official blessing-
*splashes you with water*
Now go! Write and be whole (and possibly slap one of your detractors).
There are no failures, except for those who choose to embrace that they are, (and that parachute-less skydiver I mentioned earlier).
Go Be Somebody,
P.S. OWN THIS TUESDAY!!!!!
