The Push

Dear World

Please Kill Me,

Greetings, and happy Tuesday, my lovelorn literary laureates – how goes the day? (I would say Happy Valentine’s Day – but come on- that’s not what I’m here for.) In any case, I’m glad to have you, (and will do you the favor of not indulging in all the “lovey-dovey” mushy stuff).

*throws chocolates at wall*

*blow torches roses*

*awaits fire department*

Well, while I deal with this self-imposed inferno – how’s about you take a peek at today’s ramblings?

The Push, (otherwise known as, half of Salt N’ Pepa’s hit single…..Damn, I’m old).

Anyway, as most of you know, writing is fun, yet (at times) some tough business. From the long hours, to the mental exhaustion, (the countless number of soiled underwear?), etc. – the entire process is an -admittedly- insane undertaking.

So insane in fact, that at times our own motivation is compromised – and we find it nearly unfathomable to do it for even a second longer. But we do. No matter the struggle, hardship, (or burgeoning psychoses)- we always end up back in that chair.

*Spoiler Alert* –it’s because that’s what we’re here to do. Or rather, what we are MEANT to do.

*puts on Captain Kirk costume*

“To traverse the wretched plains of this sullen literary world, in the hopes of unearthing truths, (and falsehoods), that will live eternal in the indexes of forever.”

*salutes no one, as puppy chews on shoe*

Okay, I’ll stop – but you get my point.

We all have days that we feel as if we should not, or simply can not, continue on this – what some would consider- foolish and naive dream.

But what they will never understand, and what I’m hoping that you will – is that it’s not about –#BoringNormies – it’s about us fulfilling a destiny that has long been promised.

To spread thought and intellect, whimsy and disbelief, (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory?) – we write because we must. Should we have had a choice – we may have chosen otherwise. But we are here, and we do not.

So whenever you feel as if this is all too much, and you consider “pulling the plug”, on your literary aspirations – remember that.

Remember, everytime you told yourself that you “give up”. Remember every stint of writer’s block; then, remember what happened next. You returned. As you always have, and always will. (As I said, no choice in the matter.)

Einstein was once quoted as saying “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, and expecting different results.” – so why quit again?

Stop being insane, and start being CRAZY. Be crazy enough to write. Be crazy enough to fail, crazy enough to SUCCEED. Be crazy enough to take a chance on yourself.

And when it’s all said and done; be crazy enough to do it all over again. Because that’s what we do.

And that -Ladies and Gentlemen – is The Push.

Do with it as you will. Now, if you excuse me, I’ve got some wall chocolates to snack on.

Keep On Keeping On,

-Antwan Crump.
